Join Ralph Dartford and the ‘Phil Burdett Ensemble’ for an early evening exploration of spoken word and music. Ralph will be reading from his current highly acclaimed collection, ‘Recovery Songs’ and his forthcoming sophomore work, ‘Hidden Music’.

Phil Burdett is a singer/songwriter/poet. He was born in Bexleyheath, Kent in 1961. He has been writing & recording many poems & albums of music for nearly four decades. He currently lives in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex.

The Phil Burdett Ensemble is a project that combines both poetry & song featuring two musicians who have regularly accompanied PB both on albums & at live shows over many years: STEVE STOTT – Mandolin/Fiddle COLLEEN McCARTHY – Keyboards/Vocals/Ether Pad

An album - ‘DARK TRAD SISTER’ - comprising of readings by Phil of a selection of poems from his two collections ‘RHYMING VODKA WITH KAFKA’ & ‘THE POOR RIVER LOST ITS MIND’ set to music will be available at the show & subsequently via the website.

Ralph Dartford:

Ralph Dartford hails from Basildon in Essex, and now lives in West Yorkshire, having got there via Australia, Barcelona and Los Angeles. He was the founding member of influential spoken word collective ‘A Firm of Poets’, and his first collection of poetry, Cigarettes, Beer and Love was published by Ossett Observer Presents in 2013. Book available in store now - Rhyming Vodka With Kafka - now available in store to buy - Collection of poeetry and prose written by Phil Burdett from 1977 - 2018. Paperback book. 

New Album 2018: The tenth studio album 'PSYCHOPASTORAL' is now available to buy in store. It is written and recorded to be listened to as one continuous track (56 mins) of 12 songs linked together with poetry and quasi-classical psycho links. Guest artist is Lyndon Morgans from Songdog ( with grateful thanks). Enjoy. This album is not available for download and the extra poetic and musical sections will not be made available for download at any time by us. 

PB also plans to record a double cd of new material & an album of folk-based songs later in the year. A book of poetry & drawings entitled 'RHYMING VODKA WITH KAFKA' is also in the pipeline for Summer 2018. 

PB is also featured in a film 'NEWTOWN UTOPIA' by Christopher Ian Smith about artists/musicians growing up in the Essex town of Basildon due for full release in 2018.

GIGS/Events: PB is concentrating on writing and recording. No gigs planned for the forseeable future, anything that is going to happen we will share via the mailing list and Phil's Facebook page.
